Model 300 Crime Scene Kit This is the ultimate crime scene kit. Segmented into separate tasks, this kit will allow you to dust for latent prints on nearly any surface using the included standard and magnetic latent print powders, as well as develop latent prints using fluorescent powders on difficult surfaces and backgrounds. The included ultraviolet light source assists in fluorescent latent print development and searches for physical evidence. Ninhydrin Pump Spray, Methanol-Based, 8 oz Ninhydrin is one the best processes available to develop latent prints on paper evidence, such as bad checks, hold-up notes and threatening letters. To avoid the use of aerosol sprays which may not saturate the paper as well, here is an alternative. This formulation of Ninhydrin will not run most inks. With this bottle, you have the option of unscrewing the lid, pouring the solution into a tray and dipping paper evidence for maximum saturation and superior development of latent prints. This solution is hazardous and must be sprayed in a fume hood and stored inside a flammable liquids cabinet. This pre-mixed Ninhydrin solution comes in a convenient pump spray bottle. Crystal Violet, 25 Grams Use Crystal Violet to develop latent fingerprints on the adhesive side of almost any kind of tape, e.g., Scotch, electrical, Kraft, etc. Mix the powder in water, soak the tape in the solution and rinse with running tap water. The caution about working with Crystal Violet powder or solution is that it is a very messy dye and will stain skin, clothes, floors and counter tops. It may be very difficult, if not impossible, to remove the stains from some clothing, furniture and floor covering. Crystal Violet is also often used as a "theft detection powder." The item is first VERY lightly dusted with the powder and when the item comes into contact with moisture (for example, the thief's hands), it turns dark purple and stains anything that comes into contact with it. However, this use is NOT suggested due to the messy nature of the product and the fact that the stains DO NOT come out of most surfaces. While older solutions may continue to work, the results might not be as good.
